Like
soldiers, pilots never die: they only fade away,
And off they glide to better lands where life is always gay,
with lots of lovely aerodromes on each and either hand,
And underneath them all the time
huge fields in which to land.
Poem
by Pauline Gower from her book "Good-bye to Wings".
Pauline was pilot and commander of the women's department of the Air Transport
Auxiliary during W.W.II.
